Let us start

Step 1 – Know your S-K-I-N

Step 1’s goal is to lay the groundwork for your future career.

You will be able to recognise existing conditions, concerns, constraints, or even weaknesses by identifying your skill, knowledge, and interest.

You will be able to formulate decisions that will determine the future intensity and consistency of your progress through a series of exercises.

We’ll start by determining your skill, knowledge, and interests, and then we’ll look into ways to expand your network.

Follow these steps:

1) Make three columns on your paper, with the headings SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, and INTEREST in each. Make your lists based on the criteria listed below..

2) When you only have one item from each column to choose from, study the lists and weigh your options..

3) Finally, as shown in the examples below, come to a conclusion..

4) Make up a random idea for a freelance business you could start.

The skills we’re talking about are what we call “God-given abilities.” These are the abilities that were bestowed upon you at birth. If you were stripped naked from all resources – money, friends, education, etc.

Asked yourself –

1What is it that you can do on your own without help?
2Is it the ability to sketch people in detail?
3Can you make up fascinating stories?
4Can you write travel journals?
5Are you a born salesman?
6Are you a born teacher?
7Can you make children laugh?
8Are you a math wizard?
9Can you compose songs?
10Do you easily grow flowers?

We mean “specialised knowledge” when we say “knowledge.”

This is unique information that a niche market might find useful.

Sunset photography, furniture design, copywriting, wood varnishing, basket making, animal breeding, interior decorating, flower arranging, bread making, software programming, web designing, business plan writing, video production, online marketing, SEO writing, and a variety of other topics are examples of specialised knowledge.

We frequently fail to recognise the specialised knowledge that we have possessed for a long time.

Knowing a lot about caring for the elderly or preparing daily meals for a diabetic child are examples of specialised knowledge.

There may be a variety of interests that keep us occupied over the course of our lives.

We’re looking for an interest in which you’re so engrossed that you don’t notice how much time you’re spending on it.

In fact, even if your results aren’t great, you keep going because “passionate interest” is both therapeutic and stimulating.

Examine your lists now, and whenever you’re confident in your personal assessment, identify the following aspects for furthering your career.

Take your time.

Do not be concerned about the details; many of them will change as your confidence in your goal and vision grows.

The more energy and focus you put into your God-given skills, specialised knowledge, and passionate interest, the more likely you are to succeed in your career.

Identifying your NETWORK is the focus of Lesson 2 of our Freelance Career Guide. Our “Market” or “Prospective Client” is another name for Network.

If you haven’t clearly identified the S-K-I-N as a whole, you can’t even begin to think about “building your network.” If this is the case, you should go over the following:

NetworkMoney making

Your network is a list of potential customers (and if you are looking at multi-level network, then your network can be defined as the tiers of people you sell to).

Your network’s quality reflects who you are.

If you sell a “get-rich-quick” business scheme, you’ll attract a network of people who want to make money quickly without having to work.

If you sell online casino memberships, you’ll draw in a network of people who would rather spend their time on “luck” than “hard work.”

There is no such thing as a “right” or “wrong” network. It’s simply a matter of preference.

You can start building your N by announcing and publicising your S-K-I-N.

Starting a blog is the quickest way to accomplish this.

It may seem strange at this point, but a well-visited blog is the simplest and most cost-effective strategy for showcasing your skill, knowledge, and interests around the world.

Only then will you be able to attract like-minded people, build relationships and trust over time, and eventually turn your S-K-I-N into a sales machine.

We’ll go over how to build your network based on your business plan in detail in the following Phase 2 lessons.

Let us concentrate on completing Phase 1 for the time being.

#QuestionYour Answer
1God-given SKILL is“writing”
2Specialized KNOWLEDGE is“preparing salad recipes”
3Passionate INTEREST is“growing vegetables from the backyard”
4Money-making NETWORK isa list of buyers interested in salad dressing recipes, spices, organic fertilisers, gardening tools, and other products related to your expertise and passion.

Random idea for the business plan:

You can write a blog about your daily thoughts on backyard vegetable gardening.

Discuss soil preparation, which crops grow best in the shade or in the sun, and so on.

Describe the tools that you impliment.

Showing videos to the readers will pique their interest.

Solicit sponsorship from potential sponsors. Make a “Salad Recipes – Fresh from the Garden” eBook.

Put brand ads for olive oil, vinegar, mayonnaise, concoctions, and other products on the eBook and give it away for free when people sign up for your blog.

Look for additional items to sell. Make a catalogue for e-commerce.

“But where will I get the products to sell?”

you might ask.

Don’t worry; in Phase 2 of our Freelance Career Guide, we’ll go over all of the important details step by step.

Consider your S-K-I-N conclusion for a moment.

Are you satisfied with it?

Can you see the big picture and feel the thrill of a seemingly random business idea?

If your S-K-I-N inspires you, then you’re on the right track.

You must be certain of your S-K-I-N because it will be the foundation for all of your future endeavours.

Any minor changes can have a significant impact on the overall business picture.

While we’re focusing on your strengths and assets, you should also be aware of any personal weaknesses you need to address or work around.

Working alone can lead to crazy, slacker work habits that you wouldn’t be able to get away with if you were employed.

Remember that you must earn money every single day.

Before moving on to Phase 2, take your time to assess yourself.

Take as much time as you need – as much as your personal resources will allow.

Join hobby clubs, forums, workshops, and seminars.

Take short courses, accept freelance jobs, and join hobby clubs, forums, workshops, and seminars.

Maintain a blog to get in the habit of writing down your thoughts.

You may also receive feedback that encourages you to write more.

You will have improved your communication skills, which is an important tool for success, by the time you are ready to work on your own plan.

Close your eyes for a moment. Assume the current date is five years in the future.

do you want to be when you grow up?

Will you be in charge of a job or a business that hasn’t grown significantly?

Will you be able to control a rapidly expanding network?

Will you keep expanding your opportunities, or

will you have cashed out and be relaxing and enjoying your hard-earned gains?

The first step in creating a successful career plan is to answer these questions.

In fact, it’s impossible to plan anything if you don’t know where you’re going.

Why should you freelance on God-given skill?

My answer is simple:

A God-given skill is something you have regardless of what happens.

What’s more, it’s yours without even having to ask for it.

There must be a very good reason why YOU, and not everyone else on the planet, have been given this particular gift.

It is entirely up to you to determine how to best utilise it.

Any career should be planned with that in mind, as it is both logical and practical.

Working as a freelancer can be isolating at times.

Workmates may come and go, projects may go awry, fee releases may be delayed, and your business may fail overnight – there is a lot that can happen to discourage and confuse you.

And even if you don’t have friends, money, or anything else, you can always fall back on your God-given talent because it is truly yours for the taking.

No matter how many times you fall, a career charted by God-given skill can reward you with a career built on solid ground.
